"Gases and liquids only"?!?! Get your memory banks checked! That which was scattered was RedJac and its host body. (Come on, Bick, you otta remember the name of the episode! Yeah, but it's been > 6 years since I saw it... Gimmea break -- and not my ankle!) Larry Bickford, ihnp4!decwrl!qubix!lab

The episode in which Redjac and his host body were beamed out into deep space at the widest possible angle of scatter was *A Wolf in the Fold*. Unfortunately, I can't remember who the author was or what season it was. By the way, can anybody tell me when the scheduled release date is for STIII? What was the name of Spock's pet *seelat*? WOLF IN THE FOLD was a second-season episode, written by Robert Bloch. The name of Spock's pet sehlat was Ee-chiya (with both "Ee" and "i" pronounced like "i" in "wide"). This was revealed not in any of the regular shows but in one of the animated episodes, YESTERYEAR, written by D. C. Fontana.
