>Why was it logical to risk so much to get Captain Christoper Pike >back to that planet? Because not allowing Pike to have the use of his body was a waste of human potential. "A mind is a terrible thing to waste . . ." He also knew he could not fail. Roger Noe ihnp4!ihlts!rjnoe

>> Oh come on... what waste of human material? On his new planet Pike >> can't *DO* ANY MORE than he could anywhere else... He just *thinks* >> he can... >> mike stanley True, but are you sure there's a difference? Maybe you cannot DO anything at all, maybe you just THINK you can. If the "illusion" is perfect, you cannot tell the difference between what you believe and "reality". If you have a clear understanding of reality and illusion, if you are certain that you physically exist, then I congratulate you for your certainty. But I do not applaud you for it because such certainty makes you less human than the terminal I am typing on. True self-awareness implies SOME doubt of one's own sense perceptions. Further discussion really belongs in net.philosophy, but this IS one of the things I had hoped we could discuss in net.startrek. Thanks for an interesting discussion. Roger Noe ihnp4!ihlts!rjnoe
