[net.startrek] Super-slug: A question

apple@ihuxn.UUCP (Randy Applegate) (02/16/84)

It's been quite awhile since I saw STII:TWOK, so correct me if I've
forgotten the details, but I remember when I saw the movie I wondered:
Wasn't the slug supposed to kill it's victims? If so, why didn't
Chekov die? (Didn't it kill the Captain of the Reliant?)

It is to retch. The superslug failed to kill Chekov because the
dear boy's will was too strong, his loyalty to his beloved Keptin
allowed him to resist its control, and it fled his brain in panic.

At least, that seems to be the implication.

a) The super-slug DIDN'T kill the captain. He killed himself (ala phaser).
b) Kahn did say that they (the slugs parents?) killed 6 (?) of his crew
including his wife. It wasn't detailed as to how.

Kahn said that the baby slugs rapped around some part of the brain stem
and controlled the will of the rappee.

Also, close examination to Chechov after he returns to his post reveals
that he has some sort of flesh colored hearing aid or patch or something
in his slugged ear. Reminded me of my grandfather's.

Did anyone see the Night Gallery episode with the Ear Wick? Yech!!!

Actually, the theory I liked best was that Khan lied when he
said that the slugs would kill their victims.

I want to know why, when Chekov told the others about having the thing put
in his ear, McCoy didn't immediatly have them beamed back to the ship
for surgery. He didn't even pull out his salt shaker to check their vital
signs.
