Allow me to vote no on running trivia quizzes from the STAR TREK QUIZ BOOK in net.startrek. In other newsgroups, I've been defending the posting of song lyr- ics, despite the case that it can be considered copyright infringement. In such cases, it isn't clear that any damage is done, that the posting of lyrics might interest people in buying the record that the song comes from, and thus generate revenue for the copyright holder. In this case, however, running quizzes from the QUIZ BOOK here will ob- viate the need for any of us to buy the book, and thus it *would* be causing a financial loss to the copyright holder. In the former case, the lyrics are only one part of the song; in the latter case, the quiz is all there is. Running trivia quizzes here is fine, but please try making up your own. Let me also vote NO for posting of quizzes from the STAR TREK QUIZ BOOK. I agree with the previously stated copyright arguments. I further state "what's the use in it." I've got the quiz book. You can buy the quiz book. Where's the challenge? I would much rather see someone research their own quiz and post it and the rest of us can see how we stack up. -Ron

When I was still going to University a couple years back, I used to submit
monthly Star Trek quizzes to one of the UoT's newspapers. The articles were
always signed, "Admiral, Space Bureau". A lot of the questions I put in have
never appeared anywhere else in print. I guess it should be ok to submit
some of them to the net, seeing how they're mine originally anyway. Well, the
articles kept on going for about 5 or 6 months. They were reasonably popular,
and made the paper interesting. But enough of talk...let me find the ol'
newspapers.
