Okay, the way *I* heard it, the actress who played T'Pau had to use her left hand to help her right hand into the Vulcan salute configuration. So she got her salute all set up with her hand still in her lap, then raised her pre-positioned hand for the greeting. For the benefit of you ST trivia details heads, when Cohanim (Jewish priests) do the Vulcan hand jive, they don't do just like Spock does. A Cohen holds both of his hands in front of him in the Vulcan configuration, with right thumb touching left thumb and right forefinger touching left forefinger, palms forward.
