[net.startrek] Star Trek - Salt Shakers and Things

mnw@trwrb.UUCP (05/15/84)

The contributors to this newsgroup are sometimes strange. First we had a
discussion on how fast the new Enterprise will go, now a discussion on
salt shakers. It makes interesting reading when you have nothing else to
do. But enough! ST was made with a limited budget (like most TV series),
so they had to do the best they could with things that existed in the mid
sixties that looked futuristic. STTMP didn't have the budget constraints,
but lacked imaginative producers and writers. How about some of the things
used in the movies that really are common today. STTMP used the wrist watch
type communicators that the second movie didn't use. STTWOK went back to
the type used in the series, but for some reason, they looked (to me) larger
than the series communicators (a step backwards).
