[net.startrek] Flame of my flame

butenhof@orac.DEC (05/19/84)

Gee, I finally got around to reading all the people flaming at me for
flaming at them! Wow, most fun I've had in ... well, in the last few
minutes, anyway! Of course, I took them all as more or less humorous in
intent -- if any _weren't_ intended that way, then phffft to you, too! Mine
was, and this is too.

Apologies for my mistakes! I don't know how that pesky little 'site' and
'siting' slipped in there; I really do know how to spell 'cite,' and even
'citing,' on good days. Now I have a spelling checker hooked into EMACS'
textmode -- sigh, won't help any, though, since 'site' is a word, too. What
can I say?

And I humbly admit to being wrong on the saltshakers, too. Like I said, I
didn't look anything up. Guess the memory had some double bit errors that
got past my ECC. However, re the particular exchange

I didn't mean to say Star Trek occurred in the 21st century. I must confess
that I was using "21st century" to mean "something intended to be
futuristic," in a sense of implying that they didn't necessarily succeed.
Having once worked out a mapping of stardate into our measurement system
(from several episodes which give common dates and year intervals), I was
aware of when Star Trek took place.

On other subjects, I love that Klingonaase grammar! Guess I'll have to get
Ford's book -- I've avoided Star Trek books ever since the first few that
came out, since few seemed to be very good. From what I've heard, this must
be an exception.

Well, that's enough hot air for now. See y'all later.

"Enterprise," says a male voice, "Uhura speaking."
