<for the medusan> The name Xon does indeed strike a familiar note. He was Spock's rival (Pon Farr spoiler) in 'Amok Time'. As to seeing the other side of the coin in ST3 with Savvik, it should be interesting. Steve Scott AT&T Bell Laboratories Morristown, NJ whuxj!scott

I thought Spoc's rival was named Stonn.

Actually, Spock's rival in 'Amok Time' was named Staan. Xon was, if I remember correctly, a character that never made it into ST:TMP--a Vulcan trainee on the cruise? This was pre- Ilya. BKCobb ihnp4!ihuxs!okie "We've got them right where they want us."

Isn't XON just a ctrl-q, the signal to re-start transmission on a RS-232 line. sorry, i couldn't resist....

Whoops. Went back last night and read 'Amok Time'. It is Stonn. Sorry--I let my fingers get ahead of my research. BKCobb ihnp4!ihuxs!okie "If only I could...forget..."

Xon was the name of a vulcan character who was to be introduced in ST-TMP (and before that in the abortive revival of the television series which was planned and never filmed). As I recall, he was supposed to be a replacement for Spock as science officer. Deborah L. Padgett
