[net.startrek] TREK III. 1st half clear, 2nd half SPOILER

["Target engines only"]

Well, let's start out with the basics. I thought ST-TMP sucked,
and I'm not alone there. I thought ST-TWOK was great. Good trek,
nice effect, nice action. ST-TSFS is AWESOME. This movie, I think,
is almost BETTER than Trek II.

However, it is NOT Trek II. If you go into a theater expecting
to see more ship to ship battles, and the violent confrontations
with a Ricardo Montleban character, you'll be sorry.

What you will get is plausible character devlopement, some action,
HUMOR, (HUMOR? yes.. HUMOR!!), and an all around "good feeling".
I really liked this movie.

I stood in line for 3 hours (only 1 of which was necessary), and I
fully expected to pay $4 or more. Low and behold, the Rockaway mall
is showing this picture at 5:00 pm every day for 2 bucks a throw!!

Rating (how much I would have paid to see this movie): $6

the rest of this article contains spoilers, plot tidbits, the first
(that I have seen) science fact fallacy, and other ramblings...

***** WARNING *****

I thought the whole starbase episode was right out of "Airplane".
It was great. I nearly died laughing when Kirk comes out of his
barroom meeting with the brass, when he asked to go
to Genesis to get Spock and when asked by Chekov "what's
the word?, Kirk says "No.... But we're going anyway". James Sikking
(Hill Street's 'howard') is hilarious in his quick appearance. It
seems they just stole Howard Hunter's character, put on a new
uniform, and let him go.

The two scenes with the Klingon gunner were great funnies.
"Aim for the engines" [Grissom goes up in flames] "You oaf, I
said ENGINES" "lucky shot, sir" [Gunner goes up a flames].....
Later..... "aim for the engines, understand" "yessir, right
away sir, no problem, just the engines, sure, i got it..."

The "sex" scene between Saavik and the adolencent Spock was well
handled. I'm glad they decided not to cheapen the picture with
gratuitous flesh.

Now... for the first science fact fallacy. Watch for when the
Excelsior engages her trans-warp drive. The warp stalls (as
Scotty has wrecked it), but WHY DOESN'T the mementum of the
ship keep it moving foward. Of course, watching the ship stop
dead and watching howard, I mean the Captian's startled look ARE
funny, but why did the ship stop dead.....

				That's all for now,
