Whatever Star Fleet thinks of Kirk after his multiple crimes, they really can't hold it against him that the Big E was lost. Losing your ship in a fair fight with a Klingon cruiser that has just wasted a Reliant-class starship is NOT considered "Trashing" your vesssel, especially when you capture the enemy's and sail it home. Our most famous naval officer said "I have not yet begun to fight", then captured the enemy ship before his own sank out from under him. Check out his beautiful tomb at the US Naval Academy. (His name is what's left over from "indiana Wojtyla"). mike k

(oo) Kirk's troubles with Starfleet are not anywhere near as bad as Spock's were in "The Menagerie," (the death penalty, remember?) and he got out of that one. Now, Kirk disobeyed orders in going to Genesis, but he also discovered and thwarted a Klingon plot to obtain information on the Genesis device. A tad better reason to get off the hook than "historical value," wouldn't you think? -- Bob Fishell ihnp4!ihu1g!fish
