<> For all of you who keep complaining about the refitting of Enterprise. If you will recall, at the end of ST:TWOK the Enterprise is not in perfect shape by a long shot. She must be refitted to be in working order, not to install some new fangled gadgets. Of course I know that you say. But here is a left field interpretation for the refusal of the Federation to fix Enterprise. Have you ever had a car that keeps breaking down? A certain point is reached where you and your pocketbook cry out in pain "Enough, junk it!'. Well, since the Federation finally has it's Dreadnaught class ship ready for trials (probably very late and way over cost, they can't have learned everything about getting rid of political delays and such), they say 'Enough already. We have a new and better ship to replace Enterprise. Besides, Kirk belongs back behind his desk. Scrap it.' If you will recall, in the beginning of ST:TSFS, they bemone the reassignment of most of the crew, rookie or not. Please don't flame too loud, I have a headache. True!. Remember that the Big E is twenty!! years old. Thats a long time for anything in a fast paced technology. In TWOK It was being used for Cadet training missions which is usually the last stop before the scrap yard. It was designed in a time when 400+ man crews spent years in space and now a five man crew can trans-warp to the end of the galaxy and still be back for the weekend. If it was not destroyed then it would have been scrapped. John Eaton !hplabs!hp-pcd!john
