I couldn't help but notice that there is a line in THE SEARCH FOR SPOCK that seems to invalidate a recent storyline in the STAR TREK comic book. <Aside: I really don't think that there should be that much trouble shoehorning the extant run of the comic in between STII and III. It's not *that* critical that III take place right after II (oh, shit! Except that in the comic, the *Enterprise* has been repaired --- unless in the latest issue, it got blasted again --- and McCoy would have to have been acting strangely. Never mind.).> In a recent issue of the comic, Saavik is shown going through *pon farr*, but in TSFS, she mentions to David that *pon farr* is something that Vulcan *males* go through every seven years of their adult life. (And don't say that the females have a different cycle; I won't buy that one) --- jayembee (Jerry Boyajian, DEC Maynard, MA) UUCP: {decvax|ihnp4|allegra|ucbvax|...}!decwrl!dec-rhea!dec-akov68!boyajian ARPA: boyajian%akov68.DEC@DECWRL.ARPA

It's true for humans! /* ---------- */ Because Vulcans mate for life, and different cycles would cause obvious problems. No, I believe Saavik knows what she's talking about, and DC Comics just messed up completely, since no one told them better. But I wonder about Romulans. Since they are still warlike and have not suppressed their emotions, my guess is that they do not suffer Pon Farr, but are more like humans in this respect (Re the Romulan captain in The Enterprise Incident). Since Saavik is half Romulan and half Vulcan, I don't see why any Vulcan would want to marry her, unless to get into her adopted (prestigious) family - does anyone have a reliable (not DC) source as to whether she really was brought up by Sarek? I find it unlikely. Carl (formerly uok!crigney) ..!ctvax!uokvax!lmaher ..!duke!uok!uokvax!lmaher
