Sorry folks, but even tho the conversation ("I will always be your friend") occurred at the beginning of ST2, at the end of ST3, Spock also asks Jim, "The ship?! Out of danger?", so he's definitely remembering the events after linking to McCoy. Now for my answer to the proplem: The mind meld does *not* require continuous physical contact for it to be maintained: Remember the episode where Spock melds with the Medusan ambassador in order to navigate the ship back to known space? He wasn't in physical contact w/the ambassador, but both of them were there and talking with the bridge crew.... So, in ST2, Spock made the initial link to McCoy, and stayed connected to him, until his body died. *That* is how he remembered things even after he went into the radiation chamber (or whatever it was). Now, for yet another inconsistency: How come Spock, who is aging rapidly, is still *clean shaven*??? He should have had a beard down to his navel!! And don't tell me Vulcans don't grow beards, I don't believe it. (I'll admit this is a rather dumb point, but I just thought I'd throw it out) -- Arnold Robbins { akgua, allegra, ihnp4 }!gatech!arnold Aren't there any *embarassed* sponsors of the 1984 Olympics?

Spock is definitaly bearded. John R Blaker UUCP: ...!fortune!wdl1!jrb ARPA: jrb@FORD-WDL1 and blaker@FORD-WDL
