Saavik's views on Romulan society are conditioned by having grown up among
the lowest social stratum on a particularly harsh colony planet and then
by an apparently fairly bigoted Vulcan-worshipping education. While there
may be a certain class of Romulans who like to rape or to degrade Vulcans,
there is no evidence that all Romulans care to act in this way. Some USA
soldiers behaved quite badly in Vietnam, but very few claim that USA
society is sick or sadistic because of such aberrant behavior.
An interesting future story might have Saavik actually interacting with
Romulans.
