Is there any reason for a * * ** SPOILER WARNING ** * * now? "The Star Trek series always appealed to me because it seemed to emphasize reason, compassion, and sensibility over violence and brutality. Perhaps I'm getting overly sensitive in my old age, but this last flick left a bad taste in my mouth." --Rich Ganns For heaven's sake, how much reason and compassion do you expect? Kirk tried to reason with Kruge before they began fighting; he exhibited compassion when Kruge was hanging from the edge of the cliff: he said, "Give me your hand", and got grabbed by the foot and half dragged over the cliff for his trouble. Do you really think that Kirk's allowing himself to be dragged over the cliff with Kruge would be a blow struck for sensibility? *Uhura's name* Diane Duane uses "Nyota" as Uhura's first name in her two "Star Trek" novels. I don't know where she got this. *For Josie Clementz* Here's the only non-fan's reaction to STIII that I have. You'll have to make slight allowances for a sardonic turn of expression and the desire to tease a Trekkie. "We both enjoyed *Trek III*, I blush to admit. I mean, for dumb skiffy stuff, it wasn't bad. Lots of nice little bits of humor, and they killed the stupid son, and they blew up the Enterprise (I was the only one in the theatre who applauded), and the new Vulcan is cuter than the old one, even if she's not as convincing in the role." --------
