Many folks have inquired (through mail) about how to get "ST:TMP Special
Longer Version" on video tape.

If its any help, all I did was call the local video stores and ask for the
special version. Unfortunately, you really have to be sure they know what
you're talking about, since driving across town to a video shop only to
find out all they had was the original cut of the film is most maddening.
When calling, specify "Star Trek:The Motion Picture, Special Longer Version."
The box the film comes in has a yellow starburst on the front with the
special version notation on it.

Also, you can mention that the Paramount stock number for the film is
VHS-8858A, (and Beta 8858A), since the original was VHS-8858 and beta 8858

If there are any folks who haven't seen this special version, if you get
the opportunity to view it, take advantage of it. The new cut is only
12 minutes longer than the original, but they are only the most important
12 minutes of the whole film. Little bits and pieces, character development
(Particularly Spock and his contact with Vejur) make this new cut a very
enjoyable film, and (at least in my opinion) everything I had hoped to see
in the rebirth of Star Trek. This cut of the film is the same as the one
which appeared on ABC television in February of last year...when Paramount
realized how popular the new footage was, they decided to release it through
the home video division and as a result the longer version is one of their
best-sellers....

(Even if you dont like the new footage, it'd be worth the price of the tape
just to get to hear Jerry Goldsmith's fabulous score for that film. It was
a work of brilliance, and I still feel it was a crime that he didn't get
the Oscar for which he was nominated.)

P.S. If you cant find the tape anywhere, write Paramount Home Video, 5555
Melrose avenue, Hollywood CA 90038. Also, is it true that Ricardo Montalban
received a supporting-actor nomination for his portrayal of Khan in ST2??
They mentioned this on PM magazine, and I was surprised because I hadn't
heard about it till then....)
