Not so hot--other could be better 15% E. Awful 8% 7. What do you think of the future of Star Trek? A. New stories about the original characters 35% B. New stories about new characters coming in. 30% C. Its going in the wrong direction 5% D. Its going in the right direction 35% E. Its going (or gone) in the dumper 0% 8. (last question) Which member of the Enterprise command crew could Star Trek best live without A. Kirk 0% B. Scotty 0% C. Chekov 54% D. Sulu 8% E. Uhura 0% F. Spock 0% G. McCoy 8% H. None 31% There it is, for what's its worth. The first question was purposely worded to see exactly how much ST3 was liked, I knew most folks who posted reviews raved about it, so I added the "Outstanding" choice to see how strong the support it..Obviously, folks liked it, but were very reluctant to say it was Outstanding. Comparing the films together brought mixed response, although a fairly wide margin gave the nod to ST2 instead of ST3. Comparing the series with the film brought mixed reactions as well, with a large chunk of folks giving reasons why you can't compare them, like budget restraints, story restraints, and special effects. It is obvious from Question 4 that, in spite of whatever commentary you may hear, Mr. Spock is VERY important to the Star Trek universe, and most folks agree Trek just wouldn't be the same without him. The Enterprise question was a divisive one, indeed. Clearly, there was no overwhelming majority of sentiment in ANY direction, maybe indicating that we need to wait til ST4 to see the new ship (which is NOT the Excelsior by the way and that is definite) One good comment was that maybe it was a good thing, reminding us that Star Trek is about people not machines, and let the Kirk Spock McCoy triangle live, and let the Enterprise find a quiet resting place on Genesis.... Reaction to Leonard Nimoy as director was very mixed. While a slight margin is in favor of him as a great director, many were very hesitant. One indicated he was "awful," that the timing and direction of ST3 simply wasn't there at all in this film. Some folks agree, but feel if given a second chance, it will be even better. Most folks feel Star Trek is on a good course, and that we'll see more stories about the Trek crew. (How many more, I wonder??) Lastly, it is clear beyond any doubt that Mr. Chekov is the least popular crewmember of the Enterprise. I'm not sure why (maybe cause he's Russian :-) ) but second to Chekov is no one at all. Thanks again to all who responded. A new poll may be in the works and posted in about a week, so if you like polls, keep watching the net!! Here's to Star Trek 4!!!!!!!!!! I guess I'm a sickie. I like Checkov the best of all. Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't Spock well respected (in a way) on Vulcan? I think I rememver that from the series, but somebody recently said on the net that he wasn't.

<Save a posting; eat a bug> I don't think people have it out for Chekhov; my personal theory is that people felt they had to make a choice of one of the characters they had to do without, and since he didn't have as much to do with ST3, they picked him. If a similar poll had been taken just after the release of ST2, perhaps the results would have been very different? Still waiting for my own account...
