Some battles, hostilities, etc. are natural and expected. Not every
lifeform in the universe is friendly. So skirmishes with Everyone will
continue. As for a war - it doesn't really seem likely. The invading
klingons were acting on their own (high probability but the klingon high
command would just deny involvement anyway). They destroyed the survey
ship but Kirk got them in the end. What it would amount to is the
Federation going to Real war (you can't win a war) on the heels of a fleet
admiral that disobeyed most of the regs in the book. Diplomatically
untenable and pure genocide.

I only have a few suggestions on the structure of the NEW Enterprise.
I Love the exterior design of the ship (it's space wastful and impossibly
structurally stressed for the maneuvers it can undergo) but it's Beautiful.
That can remain (but I wish someone could come up with some reasons for
it - my ideas can't work with Federation technology, I've got my own).
But, the main bridge must be placed much lower in the hull. This would
change nothing, visually, but would be most logical. Second, Fix The Halls
so that they are wider (not all species come in the same packages, see
"My Enemy, My Ally") and look better. Who needs plumbing on the walls?
Then install a 3D navigation unit in place of the 2D astrogator and you're
all set (necessity-wise).

If Paramount gets its hands on the movie it could indeed by a shoot'em-
up affair. What I JUST DON'T UNDERSTAND is the idiots that don't just
TAKE ONE OF THE NOVELS and make it DIRECTLY into a movie. Almost any of
the novels being published would be perfect and cost is NO excuse with the
way things have been going. All of those novels could be made with all
of the indicated effects and the cost wouldn't be noticeably different -
BUT the quality sure would be!!
I vote for any novel written/being written by Diane Duane (ie. "The
Wounded Sky" and/or "My Enemy, My Ally" and/or whatever comes).
