[net.startrek] early episode questions...

onnen@stolaf.UUCP (Paul Onnen) (07/11/84)

Greetings!
Living up here in the Northland *does* have its advantages. We get
Startrek every week day on one of our local channels. Lately they've
been showing REALLY old shows, and yesterday I saw the episode
"Where No Man Has Gone Before" (this show's so old that McCoy, Chekhov,
and Uhura weren't even in the cast).
My question is, what was the doctor's name in this episode? Which
episode was this? How many episodes did it take for Spock to stop yelling?

Thought this bit of trivia might ease the deluge of STIII news lately...

1. CMO was Dr. (Philip ?) Piper. Assistant (with the high ESP level) was
   Dr. Elizabeth Dehner.

2. Probably one. I don't recall him yelling in either Man-Trap or Cage.

As far as that business of Spock yelling so much in the early episodes,
one instance sticks in my head. I think it was in "The Corbomite Maneuver".
Spock is on the bridge in the center seat when the cube starts advancing.
He proceeds to yell out "Deflectors to full intensity!!!" with emphasis
on each syllable, not the calm cool logical voice we got used to later on.

Another instance that doesn't fit is in "The Cage" when only the women
manage to beam down, and Spock yells "THE WOMEN!!!". This doesn't fit with
whoever wrote on the net that Spock only yelled on the bridge so that his
voice would carry. This was in the transporter room. I invite comment,
but don't try and tell me that this instance was an emotional response.
