Well, besides the obvious, not very fun answer of character
development........Why did Spock yell?
Spock IS half human. Spock worked hard for large portions of the
series to control the emotions of his human half. Remember Spock
on Gol in ST:TMP, believing that "his answer" revolved around
removing all vestiges of his human half. Remember "Amok Time,"
when Spock had "an emotional outburst that nearly brought down the
house" ("Merely my quite logical relief...." "In a pig's eye!").
Also remember that these are early episodes, presumably having
taken place early in the history of "Its Five Year Voyage" --
especially the inset scenes in "The Managerie," provided by the
Talosians (indeed, these were several years before the chronicles
of the series).
So, it's just a matter of Spock maturing, handling his emotions
better as time passes.
