<protoblather> Yet another plot. Kirk & Co., rather than play A-Team in their Klingon sportster, return to Earth to face the music. While Command prepares for their court martial, engineers fix Scotty's sabotage to the Exelsior and Capt Styles takes her out on a shakedown cruise. Well, those new Trans-Warp engines work about as well as the E's new drive worked in ST:TMP, and the Exelsior is lost. Scotty mentions out loud that TransWarp really could be scaled down to fit a much smaller test ship. Star Fleet can't risk another crew, or find any volunteers. However, given a Vulcan science officer, their most experienced engineer, a brazen balls-out ex-admiral, and a helmsman who can learn Klingon ships on the fly, just MAYBE a certain bunch of guys could be pardoned if they'd volunteer.... They end up with a good-sized ship, but automated so only a half-dozen crew are needed (just like the last days of the E). They demand the right to christen their ship --- "Enterprise II", what else? Once out there, they can paste hell out of Klingons, rescue Carol (boy would I like to see her again), stuff Dr Who's phjone booth, testify at V'ger"s divorce court, or any of the other plot ideas you've seen here. Anyway, my idea shows how to get our heros out of the brig. --mike k
