[net.startrek] Jim's word

{ I trust you about as far as I can throw an anvil }

I remember seeing someone say that wouldn't the Federation trust Jim
more than the Klingons? Well, let's see...

The Klingons are a nasty bunch, granted.

But Jim is no jewel. He steals starships, goes against orders, and
Starfleet is going to go "Yeah, but Jim is one cool frood. Let's
believe him."

Contemporary example: A pilot swoops across the Bering Strait into Russian
territory on some personal mission. Who cares what. Get some pretty pictures
of the Himilayas for his girlfriend. Anyway, while he's over there, he sees
a Russian portable ICBM, so he blows it up.

The Russians are understandably pissed. Is this guy a hero or a villain?

Now the Klingon commander was not working for his government, granted.
At least he wasn't doing it "Officially"...I'm not sure what exactly his
words were. But even if so, once the Federation pops in and says "Some nasty
Klingons tried to ice our boys but we stole their ship!" the Klingons aren't
going to admit it. This could be the excuse they have been waiting for.

Look at the Iranians. If I am up on my current events, the Iranians mined
some canal or sea or something. The US caught them. Now they are saying
"We didn't do it...the US did!" You expect the Klingons to own up to it?

P.S. -- Oh yeah! The comment about the cameras: Good one! I wouldn't be a
bit surprised if that has something to do with it.
