Peter Merchant seems to have it in for Kirk and company. But one thing he misses, even though Kirk stole the Enterprise, and disobeyed orders, he didn't intend to lose the Enterprise. Also the Klingons do not know that the Federation has captured a ship of theirs. I do not think that the Federation is going to state that fact to the Klingons. I wouldn't. I cannot see Mr. Merchant comparing the ST universe and the way they do things to current events. We were suppose to have evolved passed our warlike ways of today. The Klingons are highly intelligent beings (even though warlike) and do do rational things at times. So, I cannot buy Mr. Merchant's story. "DEATH TO ALL ZAEON PIGS" Michael N. { You're dead, Jim } Well, way back when, Star Trek was supposed to give us 'morality fables' inside a science fiction background. As for the Klingons not hearing...well, if they have a spy that can tell them about the supersecret Genesis Device, they surely have a spy that can tell them about the capture of a Klingon ship. And if they can beat the Federation to the punch, they could have a marvelous diplomatic coup. Like I said, all they need to do is fake some tapes of the ship loudly proclaiming that they were attacked. What's the Federation going to do? They have no evidence and they are too honest to manufacture it like the Klingons did. "Yeah, well, the guys who the Klingons say attacked them said that they didn't do it." Obviously. I'm waiting for DeLorean to stand up and say "Yes, I did it. I sold cocaine." I don't think it'll happen and I don't think people are going to buy it. Obviously Jim is going to say he didn't do it...it's his ass. The only possibility I see of Jim getting out of it are, possibly, if the Klingons make tapes of everything that goes on board ship. Of course, since these are used so that "the truth can be brought out during trial" and the Klingons aren't known for their really great trials. But, me having it in for Kirk & Co.? Not really. But they did break the rules. Starfleet is going to be pissed. Starfleet better be pissed. I expect to see Kirk get out of it, though. How? Who knows? But, if there is currently written into the story some loophole that I missed that will get Jim out of it, it's going to be one dynamite script. (Don't be in the theatre when I'm there. When they announce it I'll probably yell out "Of course! I should have seen it!" and embarass myself.) On the other hand, if they ignore it entirely and just say "Well, we'll let bygones be bygones", I'm going to be a little peeved. -- Peter Merchant
