<no-blank> With all of this discussion about food cassettes I have something to further complicate matters. Does any one, besides me, remember the episode with the turkeys? I believe this was the second pilot for Startrek and I think it was titled "Where No Man Has Gone Before". Any way, it was the one with the kid with the strange powers who had been living on a planet with non-humans all his life until he was picked up. Now that I've started thinking about it, this episode was not WNMHGB but it was one of the early episodes. Any way, back to the turkeys. In one scene Kirk is talking to a cook (yea there must be cooks on the Enterprise). Kirk says something like "If they can't have real turkeys for *this occasion* (occasion was some holiday), I at least want this stuff to look like turkeys". In a later scene the cook calls Kirk and says something like "I got real turkeys in my oven". It turned out the kid with the powers had turned the glop into real turkey. How's this for a monkey wrench in all the theorys floating around out there. John V. Smith

[] Funny you should mention that episode, since it was just on in central Indiana this evening. The episode is "Charlie X". Kirk tells the cook `If we have to have meatloaf for Thanksgiving, at least make it look like turkey'. Later the cook calls Kirk and says, `Capt., I put meatloaf in the oven, but now it's turkey -- *real* turkey'. I guess the kid wasn't quite so bad after all. -- Keith E. { Spit it out! } Sorry. Only a minor monkey wrench. You see, someone has to oversee the food being prepared, especially for a special occasion such as *insert whatever holiday it was here*. So he was overseeing the computers cooking of the glop when he discovered the glop had turned itself into real turkeys. The computer still has to have people order it. (My god, did they give a WHOLE TURKEY to everyone on the Enterprise?! No wonder Jim gets so fat!) Oh, by the way, I believe that episode was 'Charlie X'. -- "What's this turkey doing in my oven?" [ Project Athena: MIT's very own Greek tragedy ] For the record, the episode in which the turkey incident occured was titled "Charlie X" , and centered around a space orphan with psionic powers. It was perhaps the only episode where Yeoman Janice Rand had a substantial role before Grace Lee Whitney got axed from the series. Warren J. Madden ( ...!decvax!athena!wjmadden )
