[net.startrek] Genesis planet and ST III book

Here is what really happenned to the Genesis solar system:
The planet aged quite rapidly and destroyed itself due to old age. We
saw this quite graphically in ST III (movie). But the planet didn't
really blow up like they showed in the movie. Since the whole solar
system (including the sun) was created by the Genesis wave, the whole
solar system was ageing at a rate similar to that of the planet.
The danger to the captured Klingon ship was not from the planet blowing
up as shown. It was from the planet's orbit around the sun degenerating
(just like the Enterprise always used to do around planets :-). They
were in orbit around the planet and were consequently being pulled into
the sun along with the Genesis planet. This is all straight from the
book (forgive any minor errors please, it is not here in front of me).
The planet fell into the sun, the Protomatter (right name?) condensed
and then exploded outward (sort of) and sent globs of regular matter
out into space where they will eventually cool and form planets that
will develop on regular time scale (eg: millions/billions of years).
This means that the whole solar system collapsed, and I still
say that any events that happenned within the system will not be able to
be traced! They can maybe tell who came and didn't leave, however. I
got carried away with the movie when I said that the planet blew up (sorry).
***************** SPECIAL NOTE: ******************
I think that the ST III book is a *MUST READ* for Trek fans.
It contains an incredible amount of extra happennings and information
about what was really going on, that was apparently deemed trivial
to the plot of the movie. I enjoyed the book immensely! Saavik's
personality is very accurate, for those who thought that there was
an immense change in her between ST II and ST III (besides actresses).
There is other interesting info as well such as (David & Saavik), not
meaning to give away too much. Anyhow, read it! You won't be disappointed.
