I can't believe you people are falling for this! But I've never been one to tell others what to do, so I'm not going to start. -- "It's only by NOT taking the human race seriously that I retain what fragments of my once considerable mental powers I still possess." Roger Noe ihnp4!ihlts!rjnoe

{ Save it from what? } Jim not returning to do Trek IV? Sorry. I'm not a big Spock fan. The show still hinges around "Kirk has a decision to make." If there is no Jim, there is no Star Trek. If he doesn't want to come back, this looks like it might be the end. Any indication as to why Shatner may not come back? -- Peter Merchant

Quo usque tandem abutere patientia nostra? Apparently there are some seeds of truth in the posting attributed to Nimoy. Last weekend there was a gathering of the William Shatner Fan Club at which the attendees got to see and listen to and question Bill. Although I did not go, I talked to someone who did. She says that it is true that Bill has not signed and that Paramount is threatening to shelve the project. Bill says that they are dickering over details of the contract, which naturally he did not spell out. Nimoy is involved in some aspect of the negotiations. Paramount is making threats. Bill says, "Hey, don't worry about it. No way is Paramount not going to make this movie. They've already hired people." So, it is unfair to say that Bill is unwilling to make another Star Trek movie. He has always been enthusiastic about ST. (Nimoy has waffled.) He is waiting out contract problems. He has stated in another recent interview that he would not make an ST movie without Nimoy in it. So, encourage Paramount to pay them the price. They can't do a Alley/Curtis switch with Bill and Leonard. Alice Greene [..sdcc11!me141]

<Captain! Net.Startrek kinnae take much more of this> Some very interesting information about Star Trek IV has come my way. It seems Leonard Nimoy has been signing on to the COMPUCAT BBS in CA, and has left some interesting nside information. William Shatner is, at this time, unwilling to make another Star Trek movie. No reasons were given on the BBS posting, but the notice was followed by one from the Sysop stating that the original posting was genuine, from Nimoy. For those who are into letter writing campaigns, it was suggested that "encouragement" be sent to Paramount to ensure ST IV is made. The address is: Paramount Studios Melrose Ave. Hollywood CA 90038 For those who are interested, Nimoy stated on the BBS that he will be signing in from time to time, and folks have started sending him EMail. The COMPUCAT BBS is active evenings and weekends. The number is: 408-353-1836 SAVE STAR TREK IV! Or we'll NEVER see an end to "Plot Ideas for ST IV" postings!!!!!! :-) From one of the worst offenders: Ron Wanttaja (ssc-vax!wanttaja)

[] Our local paper carried an article saying that Shatner was holding out for $2 million and 10% of the profits. Since he apparently didn't get it, he went on to do two other projects, one was a TV special aired last week, and the other is a movie of some sort. -- Chris

Look, folks, don't worry. STIII made the third highest gross during the previous summer, a summer noted for one of highest boxoffice takes of all time. No way is Paramount going to not do this movie... I'm sure they'll pay Shatner whatever he ask for (within stable reason). I just hope Shatner & Nimoy aren't having arguements... every time I've seen them together, they seem to enjoy one another's company immensely. Hey, it's nice to have Paramount's good will on our side, but nothing does it like MONEY... "...in an iron coffin, with spikes on the inside!" Moriarty, aka Jeff Meyer John Fluke Mfg. Co., Inc. I certainly hope that (and I imagine this goes without saying, of course) that this Shatner-not-in-ST-anymore rumor is false, but...one never knows. It seems strange, though, because I saw Shatner on Good Morning America not more than two or three weeks ago; Hartman asked him about Star Trek 4, and Shatner replied they were planning to begin filming next summer for a Christmas 85 release. I'm not trying to dispute the credibility of the original posting, but it just seems that if Shatner didn't want to do ST anymore, he would have begged off on the question or maybe asked Hartman in advance not to mention ST at all. But he certainly did NOT avoid the question; I believe I read in one article in a mag that said the schedule would begin filming after the current production season for T.J. Hooker was completed. It could be a miscommunication; maybe Paramount wanted to start ST4 earlier that planned, and Shatner would be unable to start any earlier than next summer. More conjecture: There was considerable talk that Shatner wanted to direct ST4.Perhaps since it was ultimately decided that Nimoy would helm it instead has caused some sort of problem....(?) Well, only time will tell. I think any movies past Star Trek 4 are a distinct longshot, anyway.... David Whitney ctvax!uokvax!uok!dwhitney
