Two examples come to mind: 1) WWII, The USS Ralph Talbot, DD-390 on picket duty turned away a Jap cruiser squadron by intense firing. 2) WWII, PT's 43,48, & 60 (plus one or two others and half of them were either beached or out of position) turned back Tanka's Ampibious Cruiser-Destroyer Task Force coming down the Slot. (If I've left out some important detail or have something completely wrong, don't flame me. These are just examples and not detailed history reports!) The enemy ships may not have been badly damaged, but thier mission was aborted. Tactical Note: as long as you can interupt the mission, destruction of the unit only becomes icing on the cake. Sometimes destruction of the unit will interupt the mission. Remember David and Goliath? Even though David killed Goliath, he also prevented the Phillestines from attacking Isreal. (Militarily, the prevention of the invading army from attacking was more important.) Back to STIII. What gets me is that the Enterprise fired two photons at point blank range at the Bird of Prey and only overloaded a few systems! The force of impact alone should have been enough to blast the scout to bits!! Chris Wayne @ UNM CinC 4th Reich
