We were at the video store last night, and picked up one of the tapes of
the episodes ("The Corbomite Maneuver," to be exact), $1.25 for overnight
rental. Fantastic! A good, sharp, colorful, image, coupled with clear
sound, and an uncut plot line. Normally, when we watch the butchered air
versions, the program is almost treated as background to reading, or whatever.
Maybe the fact that we were paying for it made us pay more attention, or
something, but it was almost as if we were seeing it for the first time.
We were laughing at the funny parts, calling Kirk a sneaky b*stard at the
approprite moments, and really had a good time. The clear picture let us take
in each nuance of the character's reaction, and all the material we hadn't
seen for 15+ years made us pay that much more attention. I recommend them
hhighly to all trekkers out there, and we are going to start an episode-a-week
habit.
