[net.startrek] \"Beam Me Up, Scotty\"

There's a song that pop/folk artist Tom Rush does these days that may be of
some interest here. It appears on his most recent album, LATE NIGHT RADIO,
though the album version leaves out the third verse. I have a tape, though,
that has the full version. Anyways, here 'tis:

"Beam Me Up, Scotty" by Jake Holmes

(1)	I'm sittin' here in my jockies and my last clean pair of socks.
Just me, a Bud, some Froot Loops; re-runs on the Magnavox.
There's a pile of final notices in my mailbox.
	Woe, woe-woe-woe, woe woe woe.

(2)	Well, the President, he's a-tellin' me the Recession came and went.
Nobody got broke; we only got bent.
So how come my phone's still off, and I can't pay my rent?
	Woe, woe-woe-woe, woe woe woe.

(Chorus)	Beam me up, Scotty, beam me aboard.
I'm just a poor old Trekkie in a world he can't afford.
All my life supports have failed,
All the other ships have sailed.
Beam me up, Scotty, beam me up.

(3)	Well, I'm lookin' out my window at a lawn that's two-foot long.
Darlene got fed up last week; she took the kids and gone.
Now I don't have any furniture left, 'cept this old tv to pawn.
Beam me up, Scotty, beam me up.

		(Chorus)

	Can't you hear me, Enterprise?
Can't you see I'm on the run?
	They're comin' for me, I can hear 'em knockin';
	Set the phasers to stun!

(4)	Well, the Klingons came last night and repossessed my van.
My Sirillian brandy's all used up; this is my last can.
But I ain't givin' up, no way! 'Cause I still got a plan.
Beam me up, Scotty, beam me up.

	(Chorus)
