When this was first adressed last year, I wrote up a possible outline as to how Khan knew Chekov, but never got around to posting it. Well, here it is now. Let me now what you think. Pavel Chekov had just signed onto his first deep space mission as a junior officer (not minor). He had the third watch as the navigator. Lt. Desalle had the con. For some people, their first deep space mission can be......well, interesting. Chekov turned a sickening shade of green and threw up all over the nav console. Before the manual overide took over, the barf seeped down into the circuitry and caused the ship to go into violent gyrations. After it was over, Chekov was crawling out of the comode and Desalle was rolling out of a heap of vomit. With that stern look of his, Desalle ordered security to escort Chekov to sickbay. (that's why in a later episode, "Cp", Desalle asks Chekov if he needs help and Chekov replies "I'm not that green"). This new course the ship was on lead them to the Botany Bay. While Khan was in sickbay, he talked with Chekov and they got to know each other a little. If you noticed, Chekov was in the last bed up against the far wall and the majority of the camera angles had Chekov behind the camera (so as not to disturb him). In the one angle that did show Chekov's bed, he was not in it, but in the john. After Khan took over the ship and knowing how sick Chekov was (he was begining to like Chekov), he allowed Nurse Chapel and a guard to look after Chekov (is that too many chekovs?). When Marla excussed herself from watching Kirk being tortured, she thought that if she could get a knock out drug from sickbay, she could save Kirk (silly girl). To her surprise, there was this guard between her and the hypo. She got Chapel to try to distract the guard, but he caught her any way. while the two females were fighting with the guard, Chekov herd the comotion, got out of bed and stumbled into the office, then he promptly threw up on the guard. With the guard momentarily occupied, Chapel grabbed the knock out hypo and dropped the guard to the floor. Before Khan left for Ceti Alpha V, he walked over to Chekov and said, "I'll never forget your face". The rest is history.
