Sort of as a sidelight to the current discussions about the Enterprise's age and obsolescence--has anyone else out there wondered about just what happened between STTMP and STIITWOK? I still remember walking in expecting the continuing adventures of the newly refitted Enterprise, and seeing an aging vessel being used to train students!? And then later after hearing the figures and doing the arithmetic--whatever happened in the seven or so years in between there? I felt at the time that this intervening period could have been used as a setting for future (our time) stories, but with the original cast getting on in years it probably isn't too feasible to make any "prequels". (Harrison Ford, after the release of Indy Jones &c, said something to the effect of: "In between the movies I got three years older while the character got two years younger--I don't know whose idea this was, but if they keep it up we're going to start running out of years . . ." What also amused me is that there were several references in that movie to even earlier escapades, just begging to be fleshed out.) I digress. Is anyone else out there interested in this?
