For the past two episodes shown here (WKYT, Ch. 27, Lexington KY) "Dagger of the Mind" and "Miri", at the end, Kirk said something like this... "Take us out of orbit Mr. Spock, ahead warp factor one.." ARGH! Tell the helmsman Jim! Spock is the Science Officer! (A friend of mine who is into Navy stuff tells me that that is how things are supposed to work. i.e. Captain tells First Officer, First Officer tell helmsman. But giving the Science Officer navigation commands?!) yours for logical commanding, -- edward {ucbvax, unmvax, boulder, research}!anlams! -| {mcvax!qtlon,vax135,mddc}!qusavx! -|--> ukma!ukengr44!bennett {decvax,ihnp4,mhuxt,clyde,osu-eddie,ulysses}!cbosgd! -| "Well, what's on the television then?" "Looks like a penguin."

There are many cases in the past where Chekov fires phasers, a couple where Sulu fires 'em, and a few where Spock fires them. Giving Spock the orders isn't necessarily a bad thing. Yes, he's science officer. But he is also first officer. He's BOTH. He gets both commands. Speaking of which, in Star Trek: The Motion Sickness Decker was made "Executive Officer", I think. What's the difference between Executive Officer and First Officer? -- "You're my obsession..." Peter Merchant

Spock is also first officer and so I believe that in this context the order is correct even if Spock never vocalises the order. jeanette zobjeck ihnp4!ihlpa!zubbie
