[] Speaking of transporters and warp drives....I seem to remember in the Buck Rogers series they used something called a stargate. The space ships (usually Earth defense fighter varieties) would fly into an area formed by a circle of 4 or 5 bright objects (stars?) and be zapped to a destination stargate somewhere near where they were going. Apparently they had control of selecting the destination. The stargate system also apparently provided the acceleration as I don't remember hearing about any of these fighters having a SOL (or greater) capability. The Earth stargate was a few minutes flying time from Earth. From it they could be plopped into whatever area of the galaxy they wished. Does anyone remember details of this 25th century universal rapid transit system? The Buck Rogers series was high on the story line (adventure, comedy, romance, etc.) but pretty thin on the technical details, as opposed to TREK. And, of course, they didn't have Mr. Spock to explain things. "Piece of cake!" (thumbs up) "OK, Wilma! I'm right on your tail!"
