I'm looking for the name of the Star Trek creature which in one episode attacks Spock. It is a light sensitive little varmint that sticks to ceilings, backs, and probably everything else. In this episode it is also revealed that Spock has two sets of eyelids. Also, the name of the episode would be helpful. Please respond by e-mail. Oh, and if anyone has a live specimen hanging or flying around, could you please tell me where you acquired it, and/or whether you'll consider selling it? Thanks! Thanks! > There seems to be quite a lapse of memory around regarding episode names! The name of the episode was "Operation Annhialate" (I don't think I spelled it right, but you know what I mean). In that episode they never gave a name for that creature, they just said that it was part of a larger being. The creatures are known as "Denebian Slime Devils". At least in a later episode of ST there was a mention of Denebian Slime Devils, and I assume they are the same creatures, since the episode took place on Deneba. -Yoda Necron-

> (Yoda Necron): > The creatures are known as "Denebian Slime Devils". Actually, they were individual brain cells that invaded an Earth Colony in the episode entitled "Operation - Annihiliate!". Kirk's only brother was killed by them. They evidently attached themselves to the spinal cord and caused excruciating pain. They were destroyed by light. McCoy discovered this, and tested it on Spock, throwing the whole spectrum (?) at him, rendering Spock blind. The blindness was only temporary, since Vulcans have an internal eyelid, "something we Vulcans tend to ignore, much as you ignore your appendix". > At least in a later episode of ST there was a mention > of Denebian Slime Devils, and I assume they are the > same creatures, since the episode took place on Deneba. Denebian Slime Devils were mentioned in "The Trouble with Tribbles", with which the Klingon commander was comparing to qualities of the officers of the Federation. Definitely not the same creatures as in the previously described movie. The action in the "pizza bat" episode took place on "Deneva". -- Frank Dibbell (408-746-6493) ...!{ihnp4,cbosgd,sun}!amdahl!canopus Amdahl Corporation, Sunnyvale CA [This is the obligatory disclaimer..] - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - "I call it 'tranya'. The followups are essentially true, but I feel I must clarify further. Many moons ago I got the Starfleet Medical Manual (or some such title) which, among other things, described most of strange and horrible beasts that were encountered in the ST series. The manual is about 50 miles away from me at the moment, but I distinctly remember that the pizza bats didn't have a real name, and were simply referred to as 'Flying Parasites'. I know this doesn't help much, but what the hey. As a consulation, how about naming them via this group? Act now, but before you answer, take a look at these amazing Rigel Knives...:-) -- Jonathan D. A giant casserole Given the movement and acid-generation capability, the latter would seem more plausible. Kchula-Rrit

The Star Fleet Medical Reference Manual refers to the "pizza bat" as a "flying blastoneuron." That seems to be in keeping with its properties.
