[net.startrek] Land craft and our heroes.

wtm@bu-cs.UUCP (W. Tom Meier) (07/18/85)

Not only did Spock and Kirk drive a car in "A Piece of the Action"
but they were passangers in the car going to John Gill's place for
a press conference in "Patterns of Force".

A new question might be: who in the Star Trek saga was ever killed
by a car or land craft? (easy enough for Frith)

No characters showed on screen ever died in a land craft accident.
However, in "Assignment: Earth", two agents who Gary Seven
(Robert Lansing) were to have joined died three days before
his arrival, as the result of a car accident near Kennedy
Space Center. Was this what you had in mind?

Sorry, but I think there was somebody who died in an auto accident.
The name of the episode escapes me, but it was the episode with
the Guardian of Time- Kirk, Spock, & McCoy travel back in time to
the 1920's. The woman whom they met at that time(played by Joan
Collins ??) died as a result of an auto accident.

I can think of one instance offhand. Gary Seven's fellow agents in
"Assignment: Earth". I remember a scene where he is quite disgusted that
his buddies could be killed in something so mundane as an "automobile
accident".
Oh, and of course, there was Edith Keeler being killed my an auto
in "The City On The Edge Of Forever".

The first thing that pops to mind is Edith Keeler in "City on the Edge
of Forever". I don't think that there are any more, but there was another
episode where a member of the Enterprise crew was killed by a 'primitive'
transportation device. There was that lady leiutenant in "The Paradise
Syndrome" that was gunned down by that airplane. This brings about another
trivia question: What kind of plane was it? (I could even ask what the
leiutenant's name was...)

Edith Keeler, see girl friends list for details...

"Angela" was killed by a Japanese Imperial Navy Zero fighter.

What ever happenned to her body? Oh her, for that matter?
She doesn't appear in the "line-up" at the end, when the
	park ranger appears.

Her first name was Angela, and she had been engaged to Robert(?)
Tomlinson before he was killed in "Balance of Terror".

Edith Keeler was killed by a truck, of course (City on the Edge of Forever).

Yes, strange that Angela Martine's becoming a casualty was never mentioned.
We must assume that Rodriguez had reported it and her body had disappeared
like McCoy's. Since it happened a little later, she was still under repair
when McCoy reappeared at the end.
Frankly, I think the plane missed her and Rodriguez just slung her into that
tree and she conked out. :-)
Footnote: This is the same crewwoman who almost got married in The Balance
of Terror. I guess we know what she went into space to find.

The lady's man was Lt. Esteban Rodriguez, and yes, she *does* appear in
the final lineup - you see her for maybe a second, but Rodriguez has his
left arm quite securely around her.

Since Qubix is still under embargo, permission to post this to the net

I suggest that you look closer the next time you see it. If you do, you will
see that she does in fact show up in the line-up (unless another local station
went crazy with the editing again <snip> <snip>)
