I got back from vacation (at the 10th anniversary August Party, an excellent local Trek con) and found no more responses to my poll on the Star Trek novels so here are the final standings. 17 people responded, though some listed less than 5 and one person could only narrow it down to 6. 35 The Entropy Effect Vonda McIntyre 30 My Enemy, My Ally Diane Duane 23 The Final Reflection John M. Ford 21 The Wounded Sky Diane Duane 18 Black Fire Sonni Cooper 18 Vulcan Academy Murders Jean Lorrah 14 Yesterday's Son Ann Crispin 13 Price of the Phoenix Sondra Marshak/Myrna Culbreath 11 Ishmael Barbara Hambly 7 Fate of the Phoenix Sondra Marshak/Myrna Culbreath 7 Spock Must Die! James Blish 5 The Galactic Whirlpool David Gerrold 4 Death's Angel Kathleen Sky 4 Tears for the Singer 4 Uhura's Song Janet Kagen 3 Spock, Messiah! Theodore Cogswell & Charles Spano 3 Vulcan! Kathleen Sky 2 Covenant of the Crown Howard Weinstein 2 The Prometheius Design 1 Killing Time Della Van Hise 1 Planet of Judgment Joe Haldeman 1 Shadow Lord 1 Triangle Though I had said original novels only, each of the movie novelizations got a vote anyway- 4 Star Trek: The Motion Picture Roddenberry 2 ST2: The Wrath of Kahn Vonda McIntyre 1 ST3: The Search for Spock Vonda McIntyre There was even one negative vote and since the book got no positive votes it must be pretty bad- -1 Mutiny on the Enterprise Thanks to all who responded with votes or comments. To those with questions about my information that Killing Time had been removed from distribution - I didn't learn anything more at the con this past weekend except that none of the dealers had copies of the book and could not get more. I haven't had a chance to read my copy yet but I'm sure that whatever Paramount found objectionable would probably be unnoticeably mild to a sensible adult reader (and totally innocuous to anyone who reads fanzines).
