[net.startrek] The lighter side of Vulcan's moon

wahid@dvinci.DEC (Parwez Wahid) (08/27/85)

I goofed on a memo I sent out a few weeks ago. I stated that in
"The Corbomite Manuver" we learn that Vulcan has no moon. That fact
is mentioned in "The Man Trap". It happens in a conversation between
Uhura and Spock on the bridge before Kirk and McCoy beam up following
Darnell's death. (Many t.v. stations cut this scene out.) At any
rate in this episdoe we are told that Vulcan has no moon.

So what are those objects we see floating in the sky in STAR TREK: THE
MOTION PICTURE while Spock is about to reach an all-time high in
logic? Production blew it again. I suppose they could be other
planets in the Vulcan system which at that time of the year are lined
up very close together so they look like moons. (If you were on one
of Jupiter's moons such as Io or Europa the other satellites which
orbit Jupiter would pass by overhead much the same way.) So when our
friends return to Vulcan in ST III it could be that time of the year
when the planets are not lined up so close. A weak explaination, it
is easier to say production blew it again.
