As far as relevance is concerned, perhaps a number of people who are ST fans have this idea in the back of their heads that possibly 'this is how we'd like to see the future come out', so worrying about all the little details is a good way to prepare to actually implement a Star Trek-style environment in the 23rd century. I am not "worrying about all the little details". I asked a question, which I thought perfectly reasonable. I enjoy Star Trek, and when I enjoy something and I find an question I can't answer about it, I try to get an answer so that I may enjoy it that much more. Of course if you think that we shouldn't ask questions so that we may "implement a Star Trek-style environment in the 23rd century" I think it will come out more like the Klingons than the Federation.
