I believe that you are mistaking the Romulan Plasma weapon used in the
episode where the Enterprise does battle with a Romulan Bird of Pray,
Please forgive me for forgetting the name of the show.  In no episode with
Klingons do we see any beam or otherwise come out of a ship.
