[net.startrek] Insignia on Khan's necklace

GKG@PSUVM.BITNET (12/19/85)

About the Enterprise insignia on Khan's necklace in TWOK, did anyone
consider that he got it from his dead wife as a remembrance of her?
This seems like a logical conclusion and would explain much.

Since this discussion has been ongoing for sometime now and no one else
has said what i think, i thought i'd add my two cents...

1. it seems unlikely that khan would fashion an star fleet insignia while
on omicron ceti that *just happened* to look EXACTLY like the current metal
ones being worn in the fleet.

2. although i can't remember her exact title (was she A and A officer?),
Marla McGivers was attached to the SCIENCE branch of the service (remember
her blue outfit), and thus would have the same insignia as spock on her
chest (ie. the "flattened curl"). khan's necklace sported the command star
worn by seemingly everyone these days.

3. i don't recall if the reliant's captain was missing his specifically,
but i am sure that if he wanted one (and it would be consistent with his
character to want one, to show his dominance of the ship), khan had ample
supply of star fleet issue insignia from which to draw.

the bottom line is #3, i always just assumed that he just comandeered one
from the captain or other crew member. really is a nice touch if you think
about it...
