[net.startrek] Original TV soundtrack

An earlier writer asked:-

>I heard last night on MTV, that the original Star Trek television soundtrack
>is due to be released soon. Does anyone have any further details?

The soundtrack music from the original series is indeed available. It
is not from the original recordings but that's to be expected. And there
are actually four collections that I have encountered (three of which I
own).

They are as follows:-

On the Crescendo label, the music from "The Cage" (yes, "The Cage")
and "Where No Man Has Gone Before". This one I do not have so I
have no idea as to its merit.

On the Varese Sarabande, the music from "Charlie X", "The Corbomite
Maneuver", "Mudd's Women", and "The Doomsday Machine". The album,
on the whole, is quite good and faithful to the orignal music as it
	appeared in the episodes.

And finally, there are two albums from Label X (that's the real label).
The first features "Is There In Truth No Beauty?" and "The Paradise
Syndrome". "I, Mudd", "The Enemy Within", "Spectre of the Gun", and
"Conscience of the King" appear on the second. Unfortunately, these
two don't match the quality of the V.S. label for two reasons, the
music for these episodes isn't particularly stellar, and the tracks
included are (quoting from the album cover) "symphonic suites arranged
	from the original television scores".

There you have it. Please note that these albums have all appeared in the past
three months (to the best of my knowledge) so there appears to be a resurgence
of interest in things Trek (release of videotapes, abundance of books, etc.) so
there may be more on the way. More evidence to this end may come from the fact
that Varese Sarabande has also released collections of music from the original
Twilight Zone (I believe, six in all) so...

Unfortunately, these albums are also VERY hard to find. It was only through
good luck and chance that I obtained the albums I have but I recommend them
to any Trek devotee. Good luck.
