Support for the space program is running at nearly 80% - a remarkable endorsement (and yes, that figure is from polls taken after the disaster). It seems to me that the money could be better used if it were directly donated to one of several funds set up in the wake of the catastrophe. One fund is for a new orbiter while a second is for the children of the astronauts. I think the future of our space program is secure. In fact, I wonder if this author is merely trying to get some publicity for himself (or his "civilian" cause).
