[net.startrek] Stardate, revisited

kwh@bentley.UUCP (KW Heuer) (03/08/86)

The general consensus seems to be that the stardate is position-dependent.
(So how do they condense all that information into a five-digit number?
Should be at least four parameters?) Anyway, let me rephrase the question.
If the Enterprise entered Earth orbit, and stayed long enough for the
stardate to increase by 1.0, how much time would have passed? If the
"julian date" hypothesis is correct (as postulated in <2628@reed.UUCP> by
reed!clyde (Clyde Bryja)), it would be exactly one earth day -- a rather
arbitrary constant for an interstellar federation! (Of course, it's all
quite logical for the scriptwriters :-) )

To put it yet another way, what's the stardate right here-now?
