[net.startrek] A question

megabyte@chinet.UUCP (Mark E. Sunderlin) (03/03/86)

I need the answer to this one to settle a bet I have.
During the inital 5 year voyage (this means the live action
tv show in this case), how many men under the command of
Capt. Kirk died? In other words how many of his own
men did Kirk lose in his command?
Thanks

I remember reading this in a book somewhere. I think it's 31, or somewhere
in that neighborhood.

In "his" foreword to STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE: A NOVEL
[?!] Jim Kirk states that fifty-four of his crew died violent
deaths during the first five year mission. I don't know how
many of these deaths were actually documented in the first two
and a half years the series covered (or more, if you want to
count the animated series also). This is from memory; if any of
you out there have the book handy and find that I'm wrong, be
	gentle with me . . .

According to James T. Kirk in the introduction for the book version
of STAR TREK: THE MOTION PICTURE ( by Gene Roddenberry ) 97 people were killed
in the five year mission. ( I'n not sure how many of those were the guys in
the red shirts )
