[net.poems] experiment

This is an experiment of sorts. I have written some poetry while
actually on a computer before, but that was just an Apple and no one
was going to see it. Feeling carefree and daring, I will now attempt
this marvelous(?) feat(feet?) on the Vax, and we shall all see (hopefully
not with regret) what happens...

She wound her way down the bitter path,
tripping over cruel tree-stumps and angry clumps of dirt.
Her pockets were empty. There was no one near to hear her.
Silent, the fierce grey snow swirled over her head.
She fought the wind. It was only a few more miles.
Arriving, the town seemed too small. Painted voices
whispered from long-dead windows, and mice, taking refuge
from the ice, swarmed under the ancient wooden shelters.
She took her hands from her pockets, and rubbd them together gently.
It was two miles to the next town. She had to find it.
In the end, it was still unclear: what did she seek?
Neither she, nor the wind, knew. It followed her back as,
familiarly, she sought the road again.
