[net.poems] Seasonal Poetry

Since summer is my favorite season of the year I thought I'd contribute
something to this group in its honor:

		    THE SEASONS

The sunbeams stab through springtime skies
To fall upon the trees that rise
With leaves of green on limbs and spires
	With morning dew, gently prespire.

And with the heat of summer's day
They gather warmth and look so gay
When floral blossoms white and gold
Their fragrance to the world unfold.

Now as the summer sun recedes
And on to fall the trees proceed
So then the leaves their colors change
From red and gold to yellow range.

	In loneliness the forest stands
With winter's grasp 'neath snowy bands
Draped over boughs where leaves once were
Their grandeur now to earth confer.

	But loneliness shall pass away
For soon the leaves from buds will spray
The branches with a coat of green
That from the farthest hill is seen.

Now once again the songs are heard
	Of robin, wren and mockingbird
And once again the sunbeams stab
	Through springtime skies, erasing drab.
