Thoughts of days lived 11/9/83 I found a leaf on the car today Dropped gently from the nearby Maple Colored yellow with soft pink lines And I thanked God for this simple gift The fireplace crackled, with old cut wood Sparks danced and exploded with life Warmth radiated from behind the screen And I snuggled close to my husband I watched the squirrels play Saturday Chasing and running, circling the trees Looking for a partner to spend winter with And I look forward to the baby squirrels in spring The summer is gone, it is now autumn A cold wind kisses my face and frost now forms The trees are shedding their leaves And I wait for the first snow Mary Hauck
