(did I already foist this one upon youse?)
I sneered at them, these Amerikans,
These plastic people, these stupid ideas,
Shallow lives;
And now I find out that I AM them,
In many ways as shallow as the rest,
And it scares me to think
That I am starting to buy
The lies that pass for dreams.
A better world, a brighter way
I knew it then, I know it now,
These are dreams we need,
But dreams are easy and warm and soft
And change is hard and never done
And dreams will fade in time,
And all the while the lies are gleaming;
The glitter and shine, such pretty things,
And all it takes is money,
And bit by bit we smoothly sell our souls
Until it seems there is no choice, we have to buy
These lies they sell for dreams,
Until so soon we stand in line
To dream these rotten lies.

O Brave New World
Ah yes.
The gardens in the sun
The laughing kids
And we're laughing too, and smiling,
In our houses, and in the parks
The woods and paths and meadows;
Life is sweet and good.
We don't see them on the hills
But some of us hear the motors;
And looking up in mild interest
See them running and riding
Mouths open yelling
And soon we all see, and hear.
So then we're running,
We're yelling too and some screaming
And pretty soon dying
Or wishing for it
As they're looting and killing and
Raping and burning,
The eternal truth of conquering thugs.
And later they're gone
There's always more rabbits.
Those of us left
Wander numb in the debris,
The smoking ruins of our Dream
So much for Shangri-La, and
Avalon.

Do you see what I'm feeling:
Something...
Now I understand.
This is what, and
Will be when.
Turn and see
Watching be
This one will
We ARE the other.
