I wrote this poem while I was struggling mightily to take
control of my life.
Good Girls
Doris:
My father said,
If you make a mistake, you are bad.
I was a good girl.
Now I am very careful
And I don't know what I fear.
Mary:
My priest said,
The rythym method is the only way.
I was a good girl.
Now, my ten children have grown and left me
And I don't know why I am.
Betty:
The media said,
The way to keep your husband is to do what
he wants.
I was a good girl.
Now, I make his meals, clean his house,
go on his vactaions
And I don't know who I am.
Chorus:
God, I hate being a good girl
I WANT TO BE ME!
