Last Voyage
------------

Tourniquet the world to stop the bleeding light;
settle on the runway.  Planetfall is always bright;
planetfall is always like this.

The beacons wink out slowly, one by one.
He lifts his bags from the heavy shelter;
gravity but blankets the pain.

Thick glass of the viewport now only shows dark,
like the quiet night sky with pinpoints for stars.
He runs a finger through hair the colour of moonlight,
or winter on Jupiter.

He lifts a weathered hand,
a salute to the dismal night,
searching for the faces he knows.
The others, he decides, are old enough to fend for themselves,
but he whispers to the smallest,
"Goodbye, Mercury..."

.....
These are actually the lyrics to a song I wrote. I don't
know if they work as a poem or not; could someone tell me?
thanks!
